Mingiroa Farm is a family run farm in its first year of BioGro organic conversion, well located minutes off SH1 (15 mins to Feilding, Marton, Bulls or Sanson).
We are looking for an organised, experienced and accountable dairy assistant/herd manager who has a keen interest in organic and sustainable farming, is kind to animals and is a natural fit for our family farm.
This is not your ordinary dairy job, you will be on the front line of exciting change and there will be lots of opportunities to learn about biological, restorative and organic farming and to grow personally and professionally. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within a collaborative and skilled family team with a strong commitment to the environment.
We are seeking an open-minded person with good time-management skills, 1-2 years’ dairy farming experience and with the initiative and confidence to run the dairy shed. The right applicant will be a strong milker, have good observation of animals, great animal husbandry skills and the ability to deal with cow health issues and carry out general dairy farm tasks without supervision. You will work within a team, so it is important that you are a strong oral and written communicator, team player and a hard worker.
Record-keeping and observance is important to this role. The right applicant will need to be able to prioritise the keeping of electronic and physical records and ideally have experience with minda, minda live and protrack. The role requires a positive attitude, a sense of humor and an ability to mix with different people. Organic experience is not essential but an interest in organics, biological farming and sustainability is essential.

The suitable applicant will be well supported by a farm manager and the family team. They will also be working with an experienced dairy assistant who has been on our farm for two + years.
We currently run a strategic roster - 4 days on, 1 day off, 7 days on, 2 days off (every second weekend off and a day in between).
The shed is a 50 bale rotary with excellent infrastructure and technology (including protrack, automatic wash cycle, teat spray and cup removers). We have a feed pad, mixer wagon and bale feeder. The role requires a good level of competence and a careful, steady hand using and maintaining tractors, motorbikes and other farm gear.

Must be reliable, clean, tidy and physically fit and must be willing to consent to random drug testing. A current drivers licence is essential.
